Modesty Blaise started off as a 1960s strip cartoon, though was later developed into novels and three films. Modesty Blaise is a wealthy, very curvaceous young woman of a mysterious background who, although at times a criminal, also works sometimes for the British Secret Service under instructions from Sir Gerald Tarrant. In this story, the subject of the first novel, a  British agent is found dead in suspicious circumstances. Now rumours are circulating of a plot to steal a huge consignment...

It is a very rare thing for me, having listened to a drama series, to want to immediately go back and hear it all again. With each series of Number 10, this is exactly how I feel.  Number 10 is perhaps a British radio version of "The West Wing". Each episode is self-contained, though with continuing sub-plots across episodes, and each looks at a single 24 hour period, usually inside and around 10 Downing Street, but always about the Prime Minister and his staff.  In Series 1 to 3,...

A terrific 3 part thriller. After a music festival in the north east of England, many of the attendees go down sick with severe vomiting. They soon recover and it is put down to food poisoning. A week later, they break out into a strange rash, but still the doctors are not concerned - until people start to die. Scientists discover that the victims are suffering from a disease of pigs, which has mutated and then passed from pigs to humans. Worse, the bacterium (note - not a virus) responsible...

The collapse of Lehman Brothers triggered the worldwide financial meltdown, from which the world has still not recovered. This drama, based on the recollections of those who were there and other sources, recreates the weekend when desperate attempts were made, on both sides of the Atlantic, to save Lehman and prevent disaster. This sort of fact based drama is something the BBC is particularly strong at.

A modern adaptation of the classic, dystopian novel by Aldous Huxley. It is 2016. After a war and as a result of mass consumerism, the world's moral compass has changed. Love is wrong, sex is only for pleasure, never for procreation and the idea of family is repelant.  Lower caste individuals either do menial work or live in reservations in the American mid-west. Then out of one of these reservations comes John, a man born to a high caste mother, abandoned there by her lover 20 years before....

By Karl Marx Dramatised by Sarah Woods Starring David Threlfall 200 years since the birth of Karl Marx, this dramatization of his iconic work imagines what he would make of our 21st Century global economy. Sarah Woods updates the book to the present day and weaves its themes into a story. And, as with the book, the story begins with 'the commodity'. "The commodity is, in the first place, an object outside us, a thing that by its properties satisfies human needs of whatever kind." This...

Jilly has been having a series of recurring nightmares, in which she hears footsteps, meets a grotesquely masked stranger in a lift, or is picked up by a taxi driver who turns out to be the same person. She also dreams of being alone in the house asleep and hearing broken glass. It's all very real and very frightening. A hospital consultant who is attracted to her offers her advice and the pair become friends. However, the terrifying nightmares continue.  A psychological thriller written by...
